What should I wear for my riding lesson?

We recommend wearing long pants and boots with a heel. A riding helmet is essential for safety. We can provide one for you if you do not have your own. Loose clothing and accessories are not recommended.

Do I need prior experience to start?

No prior experience is necessary! Our lessons cater to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders. Our instructors will tailor the lessons to your individual needs.

How long are the riding lessons?

Our standard horseback riding lessons typically last 60 minutes. This includes time for grooming and tacking the horse, as well as the riding session.

What type of horses will I ride?

We have a variety of well- trained horses suitable for riders of all levels. Our instructors will match you with a horse that fits your skill level and riding goals.

How many lessons will I need to become proficient?

All though most equestrians know, you can ride a lifetime and still learn something new everyday...the number of lessons needed varies by individual. Most students take a weekly lesson and can see significant improvement with in a few months. Our instructors will help you set goals and track your progress.

Can I schedule a trial lesson before committing?

Absolutely! We offer trial lessons so you can experience our instruction and facilities before making a commitment. Just contact us to arrange a time that works for you.

Horse Boarding

Our facilities include a 16 stall bank barn on 64 acres. We maintain 3 beautiful pastures, each with an adjoining dry lot and run in shed.

Access to private riding trails, an outdoor lighted arena, round pen, indoor riding space for inclement weather and much more!

Our horses are given unlimited, quality hay produced right here on our farm in Harrisburg, Pa. Each horse has a customized feeding program tailored to their unique needs.

FAQS

Do you offer different boarding packages?

No, all horses boarded at our facility are required to be "full board". Meaning, all of their basic, daily care is provided by Maple Valley Acres and staff. No self care stalls are offered.

What type of feed do you provide?

We offer unlimited timothy/orchard grass hay and alfalfa. All hay is produced here at our farm. Since horses are foragers by nature, we believe their diet should reflect that. Along with unlimited forage, customized mineral and supplements are encouraged. For horses with unique needs, we supply Poulin brand grains.

Can I visit my horse at any time?

Barn hours are open 7 days a week 8am – 9pm. Owners live on site, so we ask, please carry on appropriate visiting hours. That being said, we always encourage you to visit your horse! We want you to be involved in your horse's care and well-being.

What's your policy on vaccinations and health checks?

We require all boarded horses to be up to date on vaccinations, regular health checks and annual coggins testing. This ensures a healthy environment for all horses in our care.

Horse Training

We offer a plethora of training programs to fit your horse's needs. We specialize in gentling, starting young horses, behavioral issues, trail riding, western and english pleasure, gaming events, trailering issues, and much more!

Every owner has the opportunity and is encouraged to be a part of the training process to ensure forward progress continues after the training period is finished.
